AT&T, T-Mobile, and monopolies
In the past few days, I’ve seen a lot of rage over the coming merger of AT&T and T-Mobile here in the states. Most of the anger has been swirling around the idea of monopolies and an increasing reduction in choice for consumers. But here’s my question: how do you avoid “monopolies” like this, and still provide the kind of bandwidth and service that a country of 300...

An exploration of the new Chrome logo
Love this.
If the light source is coming from above, how come there are shadows being cast from bottom to top as seen in the green-to-red transition? The red-to-yellow pane indicates one kind of dimension but the rest doesn’t follow.

Just watched the finale of season two of The O.C.

The ocean
Just tweeted a video of the incredible destruction in Japan. It is truly, disarmingly horrifying to watch. I wanted to share it here along with a few quick thoughts.
There is no shortage of suffering to go around in the world — certainly Japan is not alone in experiencing the terrible effects of a powerful tsunami, not even in recent memory. But that doesn’t make the images less vivid or the...
Hello, I must be going
It’s hard to believe that I’m currently writing the words I seem to be writing, though a casual stock-taking of my senses dictates that it must be true. Here I am, at my computer, typing letters one by one into a plain text document, rolling along through one of the strangest posts I’ve ever penned for this site. Okay, probably the strangest ever. After nearly four years at...
Switching to Tumblr, full stop
I think I’ve made a major decision. Well, it’s semi-major. I’m going to switch to Tumblr as my main blog. It just feels far more vital than the island of a standalone site, but also allows plenty of tweaking and customization. There’s something much… stickier about Tumblr that I really like. That I’ve always liked! It’s not that I don’t love...
